This is the Lely page for wind damage roof claim. The short version: you want to file a wind claim for a storm that wasn't a named hurricane, and you can have it without a salesperson at the door.
Get a written quoteSubdivisions from this era were roofed in phases, so when neighbors start replacing, the same clock is running on yours. Ventilation standards were looser then; adding ridge vent and clearing soffit intake during a replacement usually pays back in shingle life. Insurers scrutinize coastal roofs hardest at renewal, and a dated inspection report with slope-by-slope photos is the cheapest way to survive that review.
On cost: uses your regular flat deductible, which is why many Florida homeowners with real damage from a tropical storm or squall line come out much better than under the hurricane deductible.
A wind mitigation inspection (Form OIR-B1-1802) can lower premiums on any roof and is required for most discounts.
How it works
Creased or folded shingles that have lost their seal, lifted tabs, missing shingles, and ridge cap damage — concentrated on the side the wind came from. Uniform wear on all slopes is age, not wind.
Only if the National Hurricane Center gave it a name and it was in effect for your area at the time of loss. A severe thunderstorm, derecho, or unnamed tropical system is a regular wind claim.
