This is the Kennesaw page for wind damage roof claim. The short version: you want to file a wind claim for a storm that wasn't a named hurricane, and you can have it without a salesperson at the door.
Get a written quoteThe good news about production roofing is that the decking is generally sound, so replacements price predictably. Boom-era roofs look fine from the street and fail inspections anyway; granule loss and cracked pipe boots are the usual findings. After a storm, the trucks knocking on doors are working from radar; the roofer worth calling works from photographs of your roof, slope by slope.
On cost: uses your regular flat deductible, which is why many Florida homeowners with real damage from a tropical storm or squall line come out much better than under the hurricane deductible.
Coastal counties (Chatham, Bryan, Effingham) carry separate named-storm and hurricane deductibles, similar in concept to Florida's, that only apply once the National Hurricane Center issues a watch or warning for the area.
How it works
Creased or folded shingles that have lost their seal, lifted tabs, missing shingles, and ridge cap damage — concentrated on the side the wind came from. Uniform wear on all slopes is age, not wind.
Only if the National Hurricane Center gave it a name and it was in effect for your area at the time of loss. A severe thunderstorm, derecho, or unnamed tropical system is a regular wind claim.
