New-construction underlayment is often the minimum synthetic; upgrading it during any re-roof is a small cost with a big insurance payoff. Trees are the inland roof's main enemy — limb impact and debris damming valleys cause more claims than wind alone.
On cost: uses your regular flat deductible, which is why many Florida homeowners with real damage from a tropical storm or squall line come out much better than under the hurricane deductible.
A wind mitigation inspection (Form OIR-B1-1802) can lower premiums on any roof and is required for most discounts.
How it works

In Florida, carriers can't surcharge for a single claim from a declared event, but claims history does affect your ability to shop for coverage. In Texas, it varies by carrier.
A wind mitigation inspection (Form OIR-B1-1802) can lower premiums on any roof and is required for most discounts. Westlake is inside the everyday service radius, so there's no travel surcharge and no "we'll be in the area next month."
