This is the Harmony page for metal roofing. The short version: you want to compare metal against shingle or tile with real numbers for their house, and you can have it without a salesperson at the door.
Get a written quoteNewer subdivisions sit on former farmland with few trees, which means full sun and full wind exposure on every slope. New-construction underlayment is often the minimum synthetic; upgrading it during any re-roof is a small cost with a big insurance payoff. Inland homes miss the surge but not the wind — tropical systems shed speed slowly over Florida's flat terrain.
On cost: expect roughly two to three times the cost of architectural shingle for standing seam; exposed-fastener panels sit in between; the offset is a service life measured in decades and, in Florida, meaningful wind-mitigation credits.

How it works
Standing seam hides fasteners under the seam, so nothing penetrates the panel — that's why it carries the best wind ratings and longest warranties. Exposed-fastener (5V, R-panel) costs less and looks right on ranch and rural homes, but the screw gaskets need attention after 10–15 years.
Over a solid deck with underlayment, no louder than shingle. The tin-roof-in-a-storm sound comes from open-purlin barns with no decking.
