This is the Avalon Park page for wind damage roof claim. The short version: you want to file a wind claim for a storm that wasn't a named hurricane, and you can have it without a salesperson at the door.
Get a written quoteThose roofs are hitting 15 to 20 years now, and insurers are asking about them at every renewal. Most homes here went up in the 2000s building boom, when production builders installed the least expensive shingle that met code. Attic heat is the silent killer of inland shingle roofs; temperatures above 140°F cook asphalt from underneath, and ventilation is the line item most quotes skip.
On cost: uses your regular flat deductible, which is why many Florida homeowners with real damage from a tropical storm or squall line come out much better than under the hurricane deductible.
A wind mitigation inspection (Form OIR-B1-1802) can lower premiums on any roof and is required for most discounts.
How it works
Creased or folded shingles that have lost their seal, lifted tabs, missing shingles, and ridge cap damage — concentrated on the side the wind came from. Uniform wear on all slopes is age, not wind.
Only if the National Hurricane Center gave it a name and it was in effect for your area at the time of loss. A severe thunderstorm, derecho, or unnamed tropical system is a regular wind claim.
A wind mitigation inspection (Form OIR-B1-1802) can lower premiums on any roof and is required for most discounts. Avalon Park is inside the everyday service radius, so there's no travel surcharge and no "we'll be in the area next month."
