This is the Alafaya page for hurricane damage roof claim. The short version: you want to get a hurricane claim approved and understand the hurricane deductible, and you can have it without a salesperson at the door.
Get a written quoteSubdivisions from this era were roofed in phases, so when neighbors start replacing, the same clock is running on yours. Ventilation standards were looser then; adding ridge vent and clearing soffit intake during a replacement usually pays back in shingle life. Trees are the inland roof's main enemy — limb impact and debris damming valleys cause more claims than wind alone.
On cost: the hurricane deductible is a percentage of dwelling coverage — often 2% to 5% — not a flat amount, so a claim needs to clear a much higher bar than a regular wind claim.
A wind mitigation inspection (Form OIR-B1-1802) can lower premiums on any roof and is required for most discounts.
How it works
The hurricane deductible applies only during a named storm declared by the National Hurricane Center and is a percentage of your dwelling coverage. On a home insured for a mid-six-figure amount, that can be five figures. Every other wind event uses the regular flat deductible.
Florida shortened the window in the 2022 reforms — it is now measured in months, not years, from the date of loss. Don't wait.
A wind mitigation inspection (Form OIR-B1-1802) can lower premiums on any roof and is required for most discounts. Alafaya is inside the everyday service radius, so there's no travel surcharge and no "we'll be in the area next month."
