This is the Mandarin page for wind damage roof claim. The short version: you want to file a wind claim for a storm that wasn't a named hurricane, and you can have it without a salesperson at the door.
Get a written quoteThree-tab shingle from this era is past its life; the replacement will almost certainly be architectural, which earns better treatment at renewal. Most construction here dates from the '80s and '90s, so roofs are on their second cycle and carriers increasingly want to see a replacement date. Attic heat is the silent killer of inland shingle roofs; temperatures above 140°F cook asphalt from underneath, and ventilation is the line item most quotes skip.
On cost: uses your regular flat deductible, which is why many Florida homeowners with real damage from a tropical storm or squall line come out much better than under the hurricane deductible.
A wind mitigation inspection (Form OIR-B1-1802) can lower premiums on any roof and is required for most discounts.
How it works
Only if the National Hurricane Center gave it a name and it was in effect for your area at the time of loss. A severe thunderstorm, derecho, or unnamed tropical system is a regular wind claim.
In Florida, carriers can't surcharge for a single claim from a declared event, but claims history does affect your ability to shop for coverage. In Texas, it varies by carrier.
A wind mitigation inspection (Form OIR-B1-1802) can lower premiums on any roof and is required for most discounts. Mandarin is inside the everyday service radius, so there's no travel surcharge and no "we'll be in the area next month."
